This project was inspired by my own experience of becoming a mother. I found my pregnancy and the first few weeks, months, and year of motherhood so full of questions and uncertainties. But I also found joy, awe and wonder at my ability to create life and then to sustain and nourish it. Without my own mother to turn to, I began reaching out to other mothers — new and experienced — looking for solidarity in my feelings of anxiety, need for comfort, and shared experience in taking care of life. The connections I made with other mothers has inspired me to make this body of artwork centered around intimate mother-child moments, focusing especially on the profoundly full, emotional, and exhausting early days as a mother.
